सच्चा मित्र कौन है ? Who is a true friend ?

एक मनुष्य के तीन मित्र थे - धन, कुटुम्ब, और धर्म। इनमे से पहले मित्र (धन) पर उसका अत्यधिक प्रेम था।  उसके बिना उसका पल भर भी नहीं चलता था। वह उसके पीछे रात-दिन चक्कर काटता रहता।  दुसरे मित्र कुटुंब पर साधारण अनुराग था।  दो-चार दिन उसके बिना भी बिताये जा सकते थे। तीसरे मित्र (धर्म) पर बहुत ही कम प्रीती थी।  क्योंकि जब उसकी इच्छा मौज करने की होती तो पहले वाले दोनों मित्र 'हाँ जी, 'हाँ जी, करते किन्तु तीसरा मित्र उसे वैसा करने से रोकता और कहता स्त्री पर  गमन न करो, दारु न पियो और चोरी न करो।  तुम्हे ऐसा करते शोभा नहीं देता।  तुम कौन हो ? तुम्हे अपना दिल देखना चाहिए।  भोग भोगने से ही सब काम पूरा नहीं पड़ जायेगा।  इसी कारण वह तीसरे मित्र को महीने में एक ही बार बुलाता था। 

एक दिन पहले मित्र के लिए दुसरे से झगड़ा हो गया और अंत में फौजदारी हुयी।    मनुष्य को पुलिस वाले पकड़ ले गए। तब उसने कहा हट, मैं कब तेरे पीछे-पीछे फिरा हूँ ! बल्कि तू ही मेरे पीछे दीवाना था। 

अब उसने दुसरे मित्र कुटुंब को साथ चलने के लिए कहा। उसने कहा कचहरी के द्वार तक तो मैं चल सकता हूँ, आगे नहीं। 

यह सुनकर उसे क्रोध  आ गया।  इसी समय उसका तीसरा मित्र धर्म बिना बुलाये हँसते हुए सामने खड़ा हो गया।  उसने कहा तुम क्यों डरते हो ! मैं तुम्हारे साथ चलने  तैयार हूँ , ''धर्मस्तिष्ठति केवलम''. 

इसी तीसरे साथी ने वकील तथा हाकिम के सामने सच्ची बात कह दी और उसे छुड़ा लिया। इसी प्रकार अंत में मनुष्य के पहले वाले दो मित्र खिसक जाते हैं, किन्तु तीसरा मित्र अंत तक साथ देता है।

Who is a true friend ?

A man had three friends - money, family, and religion. Among these, he had immense love for the first friend (money). Without him, he could not last even for a moment. He used to follow her day and night. The other friend was a simple affection for the family. Two to four days could have been spent without him. There was very little love for the third friend (Dharma). Because when he wanted to have fun, the first two friends would say 'yes, yes, yes' but the third friend stops him from doing so and says don't walk on women, don't drink alcohol and don't steal. It doesn't suit you to do this. Who are you ? You should watch your heart. All work will not be completed just by enjoying. That's why he used to call the third friend only once a month.

A day ago there was a fight with another for a friend and in the end there was a criminal case. The police took the man away. Then he said go away, when have I followed you! Rather you were crazy about me.

Now he asked another friend and family to walk with him. He said, I can walk till the door of the court, but not further.

He got angry after hearing this. At the same time his third friend Dharma stood in front of him laughing without being invited. He said why are you afraid! I am ready to walk with you, "dharmastishthati kevalam".

This third companion told the truth in front of the lawyer and the governor and got him released. Similarly, in the end the first two friends of a man slip away, but the third friend supports him till the end.
